25 Nativity Coloring Pages (Free PDF Printables)

Nativity coloring pages are an easy way to slow down, chat about the birth of Jesus, and keep little hands busy at the same time. That’s because Christmas and crayons are such a cozy combo, right? You can pull them out for a quiet afternoon at home, a Sunday school lesson, or even a family gathering before Christmas dinner.

We love how flexible these pages are. Toddlers can happily scribble in big areas, while older kids can add tiny details, patterns, and even glitter if you are brave. You can mix markers, crayons, colored pencils, and paint sticks so every Nativity scene ends up looking completely different and special.

These free printable Nativity coloring pages focus on the big moments of the Christmas story, like Mary and Joseph, the manger, baby Jesus, the shepherds, and the wise men. You can print a simple page for quick coloring, or pick a more detailed scene that older kids and adults will enjoy filling in slowly with relaxing music on in the background.

All the pages come as easy-to-download PDF files and print on standard A4 size paper, which works perfectly for home printers, classrooms, and church groups. You can keep a Nativity PDF folder on your computer, print one page at a time, or print whole sets so children have their own little Nativity coloring book to work through during Advent.

7 Fun Crafts to Use Nativity Coloring Pages

Do you have a stack of colored Nativity pages piling up on the table? Instead of slipping them into a drawer, you can turn them into meaningful Christmas crafts and decorations. Here are seven simple and fun ideas that kids, parents, and teachers can use to bring those Nativity coloring pages to life.

1. Nativity Story Garland

Turn finished Nativity pages into a story garland that you can hang across a mantel, doorway, or classroom wall. Have the kids color different scenes from the Nativity, cut them into panels or simple shapes, and glue them onto slightly larger strips of colored paper.

Punch two holes at the top of each panel and thread them onto ribbon or twine in story order, from Mary and Joseph traveling to Bethlehem all the way to the wise men visiting. Every time you walk past the garland, you get a quick reminder of the whole Christmas story.

2. Shoebox Nativity Diorama

Use duplicate Nativity coloring pages to make a shoebox diorama that kids will want to show off to everyone. First, color one page and glue it flat to the inside back of the shoebox as the background.

Then color a second copy, cut out the main figures like Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, animals, and angels, and leave a little strip of paper at the bottom of each figure.

Fold that strip back to make a stand and glue it to the box so the figures stand up. You can add scraps of fabric for blankets, cotton balls for sheep, and gold paper for stars to make the scene feel extra special.

3. Nativity Tree Ornaments

Turn smaller Nativity figures into Christmas ornaments that kids can hang on the tree or give as gifts. Print the pages a bit smaller, color the parts you want to use, and cut out babies in the manger, stars, angels, or holy family scenes.

Glue each cutout onto cardstock, write the child’s name and the year on the back, and laminate or cover with clear tape for extra strength.

Hole punch the top, add ribbon or twine, and you suddenly have keepsake ornaments that will come out year after year with lots of memories attached.

4. Advent Countdown Chain

Create an Advent countdown chain using strips made from Nativity coloring pages. After the kids color a few pages, cut them into long horizontal strips.

On the back of each strip, write a simple activity or short Bible verse reference about Christmas, then form them into loops and link them together in a chain. Hang the chain somewhere visible and have the children tear off one loop each day in December.

They see their Nativity coloring work, read the little message, and feel the excitement build as the chain gets shorter and Christmas gets closer.

5. Nativity Stick Puppets

Use Nativity characters as simple stick puppets for a Christmas story retelling. Have the kids color Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, the shepherds, sheep, the star, and angels, then cut them out and tape them to craft sticks or straws.

You can hide behind a couch or table and use the puppets to act out the Nativity story while someone reads it aloud. We like this idea because shy kids often feel braver speaking through a puppet and everyone ends up giggling and joining in.

6. Glowing Nativity Luminaries

Make soft, glowing Nativity luminaries that look beautiful on a windowsill or as a centerpiece. Print the Nativity pages on regular paper, have the children color the designs, and then tape each page around a clean glass jar or recycled container.

Place a battery-operated tea light inside each jar so the light shines through the artwork. The colored Nativity scenes suddenly glow in the dark room, and kids love seeing their art turned into real decorations that feel cozy during winter evenings.

7. Nativity Keepsake Coloring Book

Create a simple Nativity keepsake booklet that children can flip through every Christmas. Choose several Nativity coloring pages that show different parts of the story, have the kids color them carefully, and stack them in order.

Add a blank cover page where the child can write their name, age, and the year, then staple or tie the pages along one edge with ribbon. Over time you can make a new booklet each year and watch how their coloring skills and understanding of the Nativity grow.

We hope these ideas spark plenty of creativity and give your Nativity coloring pages a happy second life as beautiful Christmas crafts, memories, and decorations.
