We recommend using them according to age group. While younger kids prefer the simpler versions such as stars, flags, firecrackers, and smiling fireworks, older children/teenagers will appreciate the more elaborate ones including mandala fireworks, patriotic wreathes, city skylines and eagle scenes.
5 Creative Crafts You Can Make With 4th of July Coloring Pages
Your child’s finished coloring pages don’t necessarily have to become part of a pile when they’re done with the crayons.
These printable 4th of July coloring pages make perfect decorations, party craft projects, or even great keepsakes or gifts for Independence Day! We’ve got a few ideas for you right here:
1. Patriotic Party Banners
Use this as inspiration for a wall or even your porch! We have some great 4th of July coloring pages that would make a beautiful banner. Just use your favorite colors (red, white & blue) and color away!
We love these pages with American flags, stars, fireworks, or our big patriotic shield page.
After you’ve colored, just cut your paper into a triangle or rectangular shape and punch 2 small holes on top of the paper. Then, string them up using your favorite yarn/ribbon/twine and you’re good to go! You can hang any one of our coloring sheets right at center if you want to be extra festive 🙂

2. Fireworks Table Placemats
We love using my finished fireworks coloring pages as homemade placemats! These are great for your 4th of July picnic, cook out, or even just a family dinner. The designs with fireworks bursting in the sky, fireworks reflecting on a river, or a city skyline full of sparkle make excellent placemats! When they’re done coloring these, we recommend they use some BOLD colors then laminate those pages afterwards to keep things looking shiny while you eat! (You can find my favorite color set here.)
If you don’t have a laminator, try slipping each sheet into a clear plastic sleeve instead—they’ll do almost the same thing! It will also help protect your piece against possible spillage if needed.
These patriotic coloring pages are a great way to give that handmade touch to the whole table! Your kids will definitely light up if everyone gets to eat off of their awesome artwork!
3. 4th of July Greeting Cards
Once you print off a 4th of July coloring printable, all you have to do is color in an image of a bald eagle, the Statue of Liberty, a patriotic cupcake, Uncle Sam, or a puppy in a festive outfit and glue that picture onto some folded card stock. Then just write a short message on the inside like “Happy 4th of July!” or “Hope your day sparkles!”
I’ve used these as Christmas cards for years too (just with different themes) but grandparents love getting them because they are handwritten and made by me. I also give my neighbors these every year when I’m doing my yearly neighbor mail drop, and even my teachers get surprised now and then! Teachers absolutely love them though because I use clip art images so they don’t actually see my writing which can be kind of bad sometimes.
4. Sparkler Night Memory Posters
But some July 4th coloring pages are just too good to throw away! If you’ve got one that’s got your child holding up some sparklers, or you had a family viewing fireworks, or maybe even decorated your street for the big celebration – these could easily become great keepsakes.
When they’re done, simply leave them with a blank area at the bottom, or glue them into a bigger sheet of construction paper.
Then let your kids get creative by writing about their favorite memory of this year – eating hot dogs? Watching fireworks? Catching a parade? Playing outside with cousins?
Afterward, hang the finished product on your fridge as a weekly reminder and after a week or two put it into a folder to keep safe forever!
These little crafts grow so much more meaningful over time.
5. Patriotic Fridge Magnets
We’ve got lots of ideas for turning those little bits and pieces from your July 4th coloring sheets into cute, reusable crafts! All these stars, flags, baby bears holding tiny flags, chubby eagles, hot dogs with sparklers and more are perfect candidates.
Once you have colored and cut out the main image on your coloring sheet, simply glue it down onto a piece of thin cardboard (this will provide the item with some sturdy-ness). Let this dry before adding a little bit of glue behind where you’d like to put a small magnet. We found laminating my cutouts helps them hang around longer than a single season if you’re looking for that extra-special touch.
