4 Smart Ideas to Repurpose April Coloring Pages
Don’t throw those away when you’re done coloring! Those beautiful pages will be much less exciting if you stack them up on your table or stuff them in a drawer.
Try using them as small handmade projects though – they’ll end up being super handy things (or just pretty decorations). Either way, we hope you get some fun out of this printable set from April!
1. Spring Window Decorations
We think we’ll save our finest work to put on our window. There are lots of ways to re-use your finished April pages – flowers, raindrops, clouds, umbrellas, chicks and butterflies especially look nice when catching some natural light. It also looks particularly nice during the more brightly lit months we have here in the Spring!
Start by using bold shades for your colouring (as it will help with visibility). Then cut out the main illustrations, allowing yourself a little bit of white space surrounding each illustration (if desired), before sticking them to cardstock – particularly important if they are made from thin paper as it helps hold up better later on!
You could tape these to your window’s inner part or just punch a tiny hole at the top then dangle it over your curtain rods with string. Don’t forget laminating though – great way to keep those decorations till next year. Five whole minutes’ worth of fun!
2. April-Themed Journal Covers
And then there’s journal and notebook covers! That one seems so simple but actually brings out your creative side a lot when you make them yourself. I have had tulips and rain boots printed all over my journal, just because it was springtime (I mean really, how cute can we get?!)
But if you need ideas for what to color on your colored paper, here’s some inspiration! To use these printables as a notebook cover, I recommend cutting the April printable to match the size of the notebook OR trimming it to be only the part you want to put on the front. Then glue the page onto the front using either a small bit of craft glue or a strip of glue stick to secure the pages. Pressing the design onto the front starting at the middle will help avoid trapping air bubbles under the cover.
To protect your work even further, brushing a thin coat of sealant or clear drying decoupage glue over the top will prolong the life of the cover. This is especially great if you’re going to keep using the same notebook for months on end – no more bent corners!
Once everything has dried, you’ll notice that all of the hard work pays off, especially for creating a beautiful nature journal, or writing notes and plans in your school notebook! For a sweet little personal touch, you might write “April” in markers or add fun stickers all around the notebook cover or maybe even glue a pretty ribbon along the edges of the notebook spines!
3. Handmade Gift Tags for Spring Presents
What about little seasonal things such as flowers, baby animals, eggs, kites, and umbrellas? If you’re looking for some cute color ideas for your April, why don’t we give you some colorful inspiration with our April coloring pages?
These images will make great gift tags. I bet there are some pages from last April which were just too pretty to toss, right? So if you want to put those pages to good use, let’s get started.
To create the tags, we colored one page first. Then we used scissors to snip the smaller ones that could go nicely on presents or bags. These can be trimmed in various ways – either circle, rectangle, or have soft-rounded edges depending upon what looks nice.
We punched a hole at the top part and added ribbons/twine and left enough space so we can write names on the front/back side. To give extra sturdiness to tags, you can glue these cutouts on another piece of card stock before punching holes.
The pictures on my coloring pages look perfect on Easter baskets, birthdays, Spring parties, etc. Why not give an extra-special touch to small presents by using these as gift tags?
4. Mini Wall Art for a Seasonal Display
This mini wall art project definitely helps us appreciate our April pages every day! It’s such a fun way to show off a small section of the house—whether you want your small space to have some extra spring color (like a hallway), a cute spot in the kitchen, or a kid’s room. You can also choose to trim out your favorite piece of finished work to put inside a small frame, or clip them onto a clipboard or backingsheet of colored paper.
You can make these using pastel cardstock as we did here which goes really well with our April designs, or plain white depending on what style you prefer. If you don’t want a frame around your piece you can mount the page on slightly bigger paper to create a nice border.
We recommend doing either 2-3 pieces in a group to give yourself an interesting composition. This collection included one floral page, one rainy-day design, and then finally the piece where we see some animals/insects going about their business.
So simple, affordable and easy enough to switch out when the next month rolls around.
